THE HODGE BROTHERS BAND
By now most of you have seen the posts regarding Skip Knape VanWinkl......Skip left this part of the journey yesterday late afternoon of what appears to have been a heart attack. First and foremost my condolences to his wife Traci and his son Kody. It is never easy when this kind of loss occurs......I have known Skip since around 1970 back in Detroit when he and David Teegarden came to, to be rock stars....and that they did. "God Love Rock and Roll", was their biggest hit. Skip and Dave went on to do an album with Detroit rocker Bob Seger titled "Smokin OPS", and it would take me hours to list all of the others like Eric Burdon, Dwight Yoakam, Robbie Krieger (The Doors guitarist) on and on.
There are so many people who knew him, played with or for him and the fans that I have seen express their sorrow today here on Facebook. If you had the pleasure to know him, you know his character......I have decided to nickname him "Mr. Character" as his laugh was infectious he was a character for sure.
?????? I mean that in the most loving way for clarity.

I cried for a while last nite after the phone call and today and will probably for a while. I have lost several friends in the last 18 months however, this is close.....family close.....and if you have lost anyone in your life you know exactly what I mean. Traci and a bunch of us are going to put togeter the "Skip VanWinkl Celebration of life Concert". Not sure where just yet or when but we will let everyone know when it is confirmed. We will post it here as well as sending out some emails....

Traci told me last nite when I asked what or if she needed anything me to do and she said "Skip wanted to have a memorial concert while he was alive. So, I said to her to consider it done!"
May the next leg of his journey treat him well. May all of his and our friends in the big band open their arms to him and make sure he keeps on rockin in the new world!

Dearest Skip, I and my family will miss you for sure.....I'm sure you already figured that one out......we and all who know you who are left here to mourn your leaving, love and will so forever my brother......we will meet again ......I am sure.....

Ma and Pa Hodge always believed that our spirit hangs around for thirty days after we leave, so I will be talking a lot with him before he is gone......may I ask that you too share this post so as many people can be reached as possible?......thank you.......some pix from along the way....
